Uni places reduced and fees rocket

Uni places reduced and fees rocket

It doesn’t look good for people applying for University places this year. Statistics show that an estimated 710,000 have applied for degree placements for only 487,000 places!

For the lucky ones able to secure places, they still have to find between £6000 and £9000 to pay the University fees. This leaves 223,000 disappointed young people that will be left with limited options.

Private training providers, responsible for delivering the majority of the UK’s apprenticeships, are incentivised to concentrate on the 16–18 age group. Consequently, this reduces the opportunities for the young people leaving 6th form education (usually aged 19).

Over recent years the volume of ‘Adult Apprenticeships’ has gradually decreased. This is compounded by a reduction in the funding available to support employers and training providers.

It has never been more important for young people to consider all of their options before leaving school. Apprenticeships give people real useable skills to help secure employment. Further Education doesn’t have to stop after leaving school. Colleges and Universities offer part time courses available to anyone at any age.

You are more likely to choose a relevant subject to support your career after experiencing the world of work.
