Dry Stone Waller

"Dry stone walls form an integral part of both the UK’s countryside and heritage, but many of them are in need of maintenance and repair. In fact, over 7,000 kilometres have disappeared during the past 60 years.

As an apprentice, you’ll complete a nationally recognised qualification in dry stone walling, and learn how to work in an environmentally-friendly way. You’ll learn how to repair and rebuild existing walls as well as build new ones using a range of hand tools.

Apprentices will need a good level of fitness as the work can be physically demanding, involving a lot of bending, lifting and carrying. Organisations like the National Trust often take on volunteer dry stone wallers, but there are lots of paid job opportunities too."
