Save money on tools, equipment and more…
In England and Wales alone, there are around 10,080 organisations that deal with courier activities, employing some 91,150 people – these organisations represent the third largest amount of workplaces in the Logistics sector.
This Apprenticeship is designed for candidates who are involved in the transport and delivery of goods by light vehicle, van, motorcycle or bicycle. The job role typically involves multi-drop deliveries, a decent amount of customer interaction, and in some cases, dealing with financial transactions.
On this Apprenticeship, you’ll be expected to work effectively on your own and with a team. Your job could cover anything from being a driver’s mate in a large goods vehicle to being a motorcycle courier taking packages across the UK. You’ll need to be good at planning routes, working out how long a journey will take, and how to safely lift heavy or awkward objects. You may also need to know how to ride a bike through a busy city centre to deliver a package on time.
Equally important are communication skills. From pick-up to drop-off, you’ll have to deal with various people throughout shifts. And if things haven’t gone to plan, you may have to work with other people to set things right.
Jobs in this area can involve working long hours, sometimes through the night, and there’s the potential for a lot of travel. You can expect a fair amount of lifting and carrying as well, so you’re going to need to be fit, strong and good at thinking on your feet.
