Save money on tools, equipment and more…
This Apprenticeship is about testing computer games before they become available for sale to the public.
Developing top-of-the-range computer games involves large teams of people and costs millions of pounds – so if the game doesn’t grab audiences, then companies stand to lose a lot of money. Games testers are responsible for assuring quality in the final product.
Before a computer game goes on the market, the games testers must spot problems such as program bugs, audio and graphical glitches, or spelling mistakes. It’s not all about playing like a pro – testers need to be able to anticipate different ways the game will be played, and test accordingly. They work to tight deadlines and must have an understanding of production and marketing schedules.
As a games testing apprentice, you’ll learn how to create and implement test plans, how to use level creation tools, and how to communicate technical solutions. In this field, logic and problem-solving skills are essential, as is a love of gaming. Games testers can progress into other roles like level design or game mapping, production management and marketing.
